Our story

An independent, family-run bookshop for Morpeth.

House of Stories is the permanent home for years of book hunting, careful curation and conversations with readers, now brought together at 38 Newgate Street.

By way of a little background, House of Stories is a new independent, family-run bookshop created by James and Sharon Davies, alongside our daughter Megan. For the past four to five years we have been buying and selling second-hand and antiquarian books, and what began as a passion gradually grew into the opportunity to create a permanent home for books and readers.

We looked at a number of towns across the North East before deciding where to establish our first shop, but Morpeth stood out from the very beginning. The wonderful mix of independent and national businesses, the welcoming atmosphere, thriving town centre and strong sense of community made it feel like the perfect place to begin our next chapter.

House of Stories has been created to be more than just a bookshop. We hope it will become a place where people can browse new, pre-loved and antiquarian books at every price point, discover their next adventure, enjoy great conversation, and relax with a freshly made coffee — whether to take away or to savour whilst choosing their next read.

We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome we have already received from the people and businesses of Morpeth.
